Compression socks.

In the world of comfort and health accessories, compression socks have carved out a significant niche. However, not all compression socks are created equal. American bison compression socks stand out not only for their unique material but also for the myriad of benefits they offer. Here's why these socks, made from the undercoat of the American bison, are gaining popularity among athletes, travelers, and anyone looking to enhance their leg health and comfort.

1. Superior Insulation and Temperature Regulation

Bison fiber, particularly the downy undercoat, is renowned for its exceptional thermal properties. With the ability to keep bison warm in sub-zero temperatures, these fibers translate to socks that provide:

  • Warmth without Bulk: The insulation offered by bison wool is unmatched, keeping feet warm without the added bulk of traditional wool socks, making them ideal for winter activities like hiking or snow sports.
  • Temperature Regulation: Bison fiber helps regulate body temperature, offering warmth in cold conditions and cooling in warmer environments, a feature beneficial for year-round wear.

2. Enhanced Circulation and Health Benefits

Compression socks are designed to promote blood flow from the legs back to the heart, and bison compression socks elevate this benefit:
  • Graduated Compression: They typically offer graduated compression (15-20 mmHg), which is optimal for everyday wear, helping reduce swelling, prevent blood pooling, and decrease the risk of conditions like DVT (deep vein thrombosis), especially during long periods of inactivity like travel.
  • Muscle Support and Recovery: For athletes, these socks support muscle groups, potentially reducing fatigue during activity and aiding in quicker recovery post-exercise by improving circulation and oxygen delivery.
3. Moisture Wicking and Odor Control

One of the standout features of bison fiber is its moisture management:

  • Effective Moisture Wicking: Bison down wicks away moisture exceptionally well, keeping feet dry even during intensive activities.
  • Odor Resistance: The natural properties of bison fiber resist odor-causing bacteria, making these socks ideal for extended wear without the need for frequent washing.
4. Durability and Comfort
  • Long-lasting: Bison fiber is known for its durability, providing socks that wear well over time, which is crucial for those who spend a lot of time on their feet.
  • Comfort: The softness of bison down, often described as softer than cashmere, ensures comfort against the skin, reducing the likelihood of irritation, which is a common complaint with synthetic compression materials.
5. Environmental and Ethical Considerations
  • Sustainable Source: Bison are native to North America, and using their down supports local ecosystems and sustainable farming practices.
  • American Made: Many bison compression socks are manufactured in the USA, supporting local economies and ensuring high standards of production.

6. Versatility in Use
  • Medical and Casual Wear: While they are beneficial for those with medical conditions like varicose veins or for post-surgery recovery, they're also suitable for everyday wear to prevent leg fatigue or for travel.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Unlike traditional medical compression wear, bison socks often come in various stylish options, making them a fashion-forward choice.

American bison compression socks combine the health benefits of compression therapy with the natural properties of bison fiber, offering a product that's not only functional but also eco-friendly and stylish. Whether you're an athlete looking for enhanced performance and recovery, someone with circulation issues, or simply seeking comfort in everyday life, these socks could be your next best investment in foot and leg health.

    Sock Sizing

Socks should fit as comfortably as any other garment. The heel should rest on your heel—not under it (as with a sock that’s too small) or halfway up your Achilles (as with a sock that’s too large). The sock should be snug against your foot with no sagging fabric. The toe seam should lie flat across the top of your toes.

    Sock Heel at Your Heel
The heel of the sock should sit directly on your heel, not above or below it.

    Flat Toe Seam
The toe seam should lay flat along the top of your toes, not above or below them.

    Taut Across the Foot
Socks should fit snugly across your foot without any sagging material. If you wear wide shoes (E+), consider sizing up. If you wear a wide shoe size (E+), consider sizing up.

    Material Composition

Here at The Buffalo Wool Co., our yarn bases for all our gear is (and will always be) natural fibers. This means that the internal structure of your socks (the parts that touch your skin) will be made from bison fiber, merino wool, mulberry silk, and other 100% natural fibers.

The overall composition (the parts that touch your skin plus everything else) will include other materials like nylon or polyester. This is done to make the sock more durable and ensure that your socks work (and play) as hard as you do.

No stinky feet… no blisters, seam rubs, or scratchy tops.

Like some miracle my husband can’t wear holes in these socks and he can wear them 2-3 days and still not have smelly feet! These socks (unless you have fungus feet) do not have to be washed everyday and to keep them nice we wash them in cold water, in a mesh bag with the sock inside out - after all, your feet were on the inside! But that’s just how we gravel pitters do things round these parts). These socks not only give full support but they don’t bind up your toes, get runners, or wind up cording off your leg below the knee. They made my broken leg feel better, feel supported and stopped my excavator operating husband’s varicose from getting any worse! They are also true to size… You will think “omg these look to tight” but they are not, the foot is actually size fitted and that’s why you won’t have HAMMER TOES in them!!! If I could give ten stars I would.

    Rare

Rare snow event happened in northern Florida. I purchased these socks not knowing what was about to happen. I’m glad I did. These are absolutely the best socks I’ve ever worn. Super fast shipping and an amazing product. Do yourself a favor and get some.

    OTC Compression Socks

I have been wearing compression socks for over 20 years. And have spent hundreds of dollars on compression socks of all types.
The problem with the hospital socks is they are made completely of nylon & makes my foot slip in my shoes/ boots.
The problem with wool blend socks is they are too thick to accommodate my foot in my boot.
Until I sent an email to Ron, inquiring about said socks.
I have been wearing these for a month ( yes I’ve washed them by hand) and these socks are Perfect! My foot does not slide in my boot, and I’ve not noticed any discomfort wearing them all day long.
Best of all Made In USA! Can’t go wrong with an American company.
Thanks again Ron, T & Company

EXACTLY what I was looking for!

My husband’s usual compression socks, which I FINALLY got him to start wearing last summer, were a little on the thin side as the colder months arrived. For Christmas, I was determined to find him some thicker, wooly ones, IF they existed. These socks were just what I’d hoped for! I purchased a three-pack for him and he loves them! The compression is perfect and the calf coverage is just below the knee, same as the thinner socks, but these socks are A LOT warmer! They launder well, too! They might seem pricey, but they are worth every penny. You will not be disappointed!

Comfort: Exceptionally comfortable, providing a snug yet gentle fit for all-day wear, suitable for both office environments and active lifestyles. Tested for 24 continuous hours, staying dry and snug the whole time. Note: They are Compression Socks, so they should feel a a tad tight but not strech out over time.

Warmth: Tested in below-freezing conditions for over 2 consecutive hours multiple times, these socks provide superior warmth, making them excellent for cold weather use.

Durability: Constructed with high-quality materials, these socks show no signs of wear, promising long-lasting use. The packaging reflects the premium quality of the product.

    New Favorite

These socks received their inauguration during this year’s elk hunt and performed admirably. I did not think there was a better sock, but these socks proved me wrong. I will purchase another pair when I can afford them and probably purchase a pair for a family member this Christmas.

    Simply the BEST

My husband and I have 2 pair each of your OTC socks. We wear them daily and wouldn’t trade them for any other compression socks! Before these socks, I experienced leg “heaviness” and pain by the end of each day. I just accepted that as my new normal. What a difference your OTC socks have made! I no longer have pain or heaviness in my legs. Thank you for an amazing pair of socks! In addition, they launder well and are super comfortable.

    Vigorous feet and no aches

This set of three came in last week in time for a buddy and me to test-wear them before we go hiking in California's Mammoth Falls area tomorrow. The array of Buffalo Wool Co socks in my dresser drawers has nearly every version for each special benefit they offer. These compression socks are true to the name as energized feet and a lack of leg aches in these Scarpa boots is like heaven! Get 'em, wear 'em, enjoy the cushy and the flawless wicking-warmth.

    Dry and Comfortable!

Although not my first Buffalo Wool socks I was still mighty impressed at how comfortable and DRY my feet remained wearing these O.T.C. socks. Humidity had the feels like temperatures well into triple digits as I worked on my dock and I think my feet were the only part of me that wasn't soaking wet.

Ngl, I get a kick out of telling people I have a sock maker! XD

Every pair of socks we’ve gotten from y’all have been top shelf.

I carry two of your stickers in my bag just in case I run into anyone with sore feet.

It’s usually my son getting the socks… but these were for me. These are just the most comfortable socks… they squeeze your legs just right but keep your toesies in plenty of wiggle room.

Best socks on the planet and we will never buy any others.

    Thank you!

    Not Quite There, For Me

Okay, I've bought a fair amount of Buffalo wool socks, and theyve all been very comfortable, warm, and resilient. And socks, especially wool ones, are a pretty personal, like or dislike thing. So, on a personal level, just for me, these were TOO compressive, in the Large I generally buy for myself. So tight they left bruising along my calf from the top band of elastic. I've had to wear medical grade compression socks before for healing from an injury, so I have an idea what compression socks feel like. This isnt coming out of left field. If I had ordered these a size larger, the upper might have been less tight, but the foot wouldn't have been correct, and the heel would have been too far back and up. And I'm not a huge guy (6-1, and 240) and age is creeping in, so my calves arent what they were. The socks are just too tight for me where the compression ribbing is. So a 5 for being bison wool and comfortable as heck in the foot, and a 3 for the extraordinary compression in the calf. Works out to a 4, so there you have it.

    Great for every day wear!

Since the arrived, I’ve worn them everyday. Noticed that since I’ve started wearing them my feet and legs don’t seem as tired after wearing them. They offer just enough compression but not too tight. Love them and will be ordering more in the future.

    I LOVE THESE SOCKS❣️

I purchased these socks after sending a couple of different pairs of socks to my brother in Nebraska who enjoys hunting & fishing. He loved them so much, I thought I’d try the compression socks as I’m on my feet a lot on the farm, travel occasionally, and my feet tend to always be cold. They are amazing, cozy, totally comfortable and of the highest quality. I appreciate supporting what The Buffalo Wool Company are doing, especially as a hand spinner and knitter.

Probably the best socks I’ve owned

Probably the best socks I’ve owned. Comfortable, don’t fall down from calves and no stink after 5 straight days of wear. They’re now my go to hunting, hiking, working socks. Worn during a crazy workout because I forgot a change of socks and they were awesome.

    So impressed with these socks

So impressed with these socks. I bought these because I was planning a trip to Alaska with my son in mid-March. We were leaving from Phoenix and flying to Fairbanks so anticipated about a 100F change in temp between the two cities and a fairly full day of flights. I wanted the compression to reduce the potential for swelling and a sock that would adjust with the temperature fluctuation so my feet weren't roasting in one city and freezing in another. These socks seriously delivered. I wore them by themselves for the travel days and layered with some other thinner socks and insulated boots for outdoor Arctic activities and they never failed me. Better still, I only had to pack 2 pair because they really can sustain multiple days of use with no odor and no loss of shape. Highly recommend!

    Comfortable AND Breathable

The wool is such a nice change! I wear compression socks to keep my legs from getting tired. Most are nylon or poly. These are WOOL! So much better for my feet! Compression isn't as tight as some others, but worth it for my feet to get more air. Love them!
My husband also wears them. He absolutely loves them.

    Best Socks I Own!

Recently saw friends on X sharing their experiences with Buffalo Wool Compression Socks. So I took the plunge and ordered up a 3 pack and they are now my go to socks! I will most likely be ordering more in the future. The socks feel amazing, regulate temperature well, and are all day comfortable especially in hiking and out door activities when on the go and on your feet all day. Can't say enough good about them!
