Benefits of Compression Socks
Before you fine folks started requesting compression socks, we had never tried them. Well, color us impressed. We found our OTC Compression Socks to provide all-day leg support and circulation keeping our feet and legs from swelling. But, don’t just take our word for it. Here are some leading expert reasons why compression socks are the right fit.
Compression Socks increase healthy pressure on your skin and tissue.
If you’re taking a long flight or patiently waiting in your hunting blind, compression socks can help maintain circulation during periods of less movement. That means less discomfort and potential swelling in your legs and feet.
Graduated compression can aid in recovery from heavy physical activity.
Whether you are an avid runner, cyclist, snowmobiler or fisher, graduated compression socks have shown to help recovery from heavy activity. Graduated compression improves blood circulation, which in turn speeds the removal of lactic acid and increases oxygen to the blood.
Most Common Uses for Compression Socks
We’re certainly hooked on the benefits of our OTC Compression Socks for everyday wear while working, but in case you need more inspiration, here are a few of our favorite use cases for these amazing socks.
- Long fishing excursions
- Flying to and fro
- Skiing or Snowmobiling (bonus - our OTCs are also incredibly warm)
- Long distance running
- Long sitting spells while hunting
Socks should fit as well as any of your other garments. The heel should sit on your heel and not under it as in a sock too small, nor half way up your Achilles as in a sock that’s too large. Socks should be flush against your foot with no extra material sagging. The toe seam should lay flat across the top of the toes.
Sock Heel at Your Heel
The sock heel should sit on your heel, not under it or above it.
Flat Toe Seam
The toe seam should lie flat along the top of your toes, not above or below.
Taut Across the Foot
Socks should be taut across your foot with no sagging material. If you wear a wide shoe size (E+), consider sizing up.

Once you are ready to clean your gear, follow a few simple steps to care for your favorite socks, beanie, and gloves. How to Care for your favorite bison fiber gear
Here at The Buffalo Wool Co., our yarn bases for all our gear is (and will always be) natural fibers. This means that the internal structure of your socks (the parts that touch your skin) will be made from bison fiber, merino wool, mulberry silk, and other 100% natural fibers.
The overall composition (the parts that touch your skin plus everything else) will include other materials like nylon or polyester. This is done to make the sock more durable and ensure that your socks work (and play) as hard as you do.

I purchased a pair of BWC compression socks on a whim at the Alaska State Fair. These have held up incredibly well and keep my feet warm while wearing steel-toe work boots. I wear this same pair almost daily & after over 3 months they barely show any wear. They do not hold odor so I don't have to wash them daily which saves time & money. I love these socks & highly recommend them.
These socks are very comfortable.
My new favorite Hunting Sock and will get the same pair for everyday winter life.
Was thrilled to see they had compression socks. These are comfortable for all day wear and help with leg fatigue from walking on concrete. The staff are great to work with and applied my military discount. These are not “quitters” and stay up and comfy all day. I would like to see an extreme cold weather version at some point. Shipping was timely. Thanks again.
62 years-old with 18” Calves! The socks fit and feel great.
Arthritis in hands and feet required a little patience and some trial and error, but I now have no trouble getting the OTC compression socks on or off. I work Sat-Sun-Mon every other weekend and wear them with my work boots. I drive 180 miles each of those days, get in and out of the truck a few dozen times, and monitor some oil & gas equipment.
I found the sole of the socks to be just a little thin for the boots I prefer, so I wear a good thin ankle sock over each OTC sock. Overweight, worn out, arthritic, a knee replacement, an ankle surgery, and a variety of neuropathy-type issues cause an old guy to search for some relief by way of shoes, socks, gloves, etc. These OTC socks have provided me with very good comfort and support while I continue to work in a blue collar capacity. 90-100 degree Texas heat has not been an issue for these socks and they have had ZERO odor or sweat issues.
Another great product!
I have a few BWC socks and I tend to grab a pair of these the more often than not, year-round. They feel that good and most of all they stay up. The compression is below the 20-30mm Medical Grade and are much easier to put-on and take off and offer a great leg feel. I would like to see a Trekker OTC Compression one day as no-one really makes a Heavyweight or Xtra Heavyweight compression sock. Nice work, BWC!
I Love these socks!! Very well made!
On long flights it's a good idea to not only walk a bit, but to also wear a comfortable compression type sock; DVT's are no joke. I wasn't so sure about a wool blend sock in the Atlanta heat, nor the size, but the socks were perfectly comfortable in the heat, and nice when the plane got pretty chilly. If you've never worn them, they're supposed to be snug, but not cut off circulation, nor be uncomfortable, and these fit the bill perfectly. They're not inexpensive, but IMHO if you're seeking socks such as these, I don't think you can do better. Kudos to Ron for great communication, and for trying to meet your needs; buy with confidence.
