Seriously warm. Surprisingly soft.

Our Pro-Gear Technical Bison and Silk Boot Socks have all the special features to fit your boot needs. We created a sock from Bison down and silk that will keep your feet warm and dry all winter long.

This sock has a terry loop cushioned footbed, vented and structured instep for a smooth fit, terry loop 4" x 4" shin pad and just enough spandex to hold it above your 12" boot top...but not enough to cut down circulation. Nylon over-plaited in the toe and way up past the heel for long smooth wear. Seriously warm. Surprisingly soft. The perfect sock for your ski boots, heavy winter snow boots or city rain boots. You will feel the difference that bison can make in your socks.

  • Mid-calf boot style / 12" from heel
  • 4" x 4" Shin pad on the front of the leg cushions lace-up boots or ski boots
  • Reinforced toe
  • Extended padded and reinforced heel zone
  • Smooth flat toe seam
  • Vented side panel
  • Padded on the bottom of the foot
  • Contoured rib top & stretched ribbing
  • Arch and ankle compression support
  • The bison on the toe indicates the size (photo shows a large); small-brown, medium-yellow, large-blue, xlarge-red

Sock Sizing

Socks should fit as comfortably as any other garment. The heel should rest on your heel—not under it (as with a sock that’s too small) or halfway up your Achilles (as with a sock that’s too large). The sock should be snug against your foot with no sagging fabric. The toe seam should lie flat across the top of your toes.

Sock Heel at Your Heel
The heel of the sock should sit directly on your heel, not above or below it.

Flat Toe Seam
The toe seam should lay flat along the top of your toes, not above or below them.

Taut Across the Foot
Socks should fit snugly across your foot without any sagging material. If you wear wide shoes (E+), consider sizing up. If you wear a wide shoe size (E+), consider sizing up.

Material Composition

Here at The Buffalo Wool Co., our yarn bases for all our gear is (and will always be) natural fibers. This means that the internal structure of your socks (the parts that touch your skin) will be made from bison fiber, merino wool, mulberry silk, and other 100% natural fibers.

The overall composition (the parts that touch your skin plus everything else) will include other materials like nylon or polyester. This is done to make the sock more durable and ensure that your socks work (and play) as hard as you do.

Comfy socks

Best socks I have ever bought. Well worth the money. They stay in place, keep my feet warm and dry, & they are durable & long lasting! Money well spent!!

Best socks for the cold

Rob Miskin is amazing and very helpful. I have been studying about what are the best type for socks for cold weather. I have had frostnip and as a of result, my feet are constantly cold even on hot summer days. It all changed, when I found Bison socks. They allow my feet to stay warmer compared to wool. I will continue to buy bison socks because they help regulate my feet’s temperature. I would compare the warmth of bison socks to having battery heated socks or even toe warmers on. These are some really great socks. They are pricey side, but if you are in the market for a good quality, long lasting, and toasty socks for your cold feet, search no more. Your feet will thank you.

Lightweight, warm, and comfortable!

I race sled dogs in Alaska and typically use the thick Trekker advantage gear boot socks. They have been amazing and incredibly warm in all conditions. At times too warm so I decided to try the pro gear socks in this years Kobuk 440. I wore one pair the entire race!! I was so happy with how much dryer my feet stayed without the extra heat. At one point in the race the exterior of my boots got wet and froze but my feet were dry and warm inside! Buffalo wool continues to make the best socks! -Hunter Keefe

Sock connoisseur

I love socks. Just check my sock box. Some people collect tea cups, old Levi’s or…Buffalo? :) Like my Uncle Rod and Aunt Lynette who gave me a gift card to Buffalo Wool Co for Christmas. When I opened this website only to see socks on here with natural Buffalo fibers, it did indeed feel like Christmas morning. And, it does again on this day where they arrived in the mail and I thought “These do top the list for best socks ever!” They even have a little extra double comfort layer around where the end of ones boot sits on the calf. This Minnesota girl’s sock box won’t see very often.

Great socks!

I FINALLY got to wear these socks while deer hunting in the northern tier of Pennsylvania, during 4 days of snow and low temperatures...I wore them two days straight under 600 gram hunting boots (Georgia Boot Co boots) and my feet stayed nice and warm....looking forward to adding a third pair to the hunting sock bin!....that's me on the left end of this photo pointing at Santa's sleigh minus an engine or two (one of my little group's traditional end of the first day photo - - and I have my BWC socks on)

Buffalo Down and Silk

I had been online shopping for cashmere socks for my trip to Iceland when I came across the BWC website and decided to give them a try. The combination of buffalo down and silk felt especially soft and kept my feet warm and dry while chasing waterfalls and trekking inside the heart of a glacier. With the discovery of buffalo wool socks, my cashmere sock search is over. Thank you Ron and Theresa. Your dream has become a reality for many.

Perfect choice

I bought these socks for use in the Grand Canyon for a four day journey. I saved them for my night kit as the temperatures were expected to get below freezing. With these socks, my feet were perfectly comfortable!

Gifted a Cool-Weather Fisherman

Nagged by hypothermic toes when fishing the mountain and valley rivers, my buddy received my gift of Pro-Gear Technical Bison/Silk in XL and returned from his all-nighter with a hefty King Salmon and rave reviews of his new socks.

Knowing how fishermen can soar from a catch, I waited to review these socks until he came home "skunked."

Without even his usual "catch-and-release," last night's chilly 28F found him giddy about the warmest toes he ever remembers.

No longer will his fondness for fishing be limited by loss of feeling in frigid toes!

Best gift ever to an outdoorsy person!!!

Comfort, Warmth, American Classic

We’re so impressed with your Bison/Silk boot socks that we’re coming back for more! Buying American has become extremely important to my husband and me. You’re not only offing a “made in America” product, but socks that are incredibly comfortable, warm, soft and easy care. And what can be more of an American classic than Bison down! Awesome product!

I have bought sevral pairs though out the years,

I have bought sevral pairs though out the years, and they were always amazingly warm, soft and comfortable. Unless this is a one off the pair I just recently bought, were not comfortable, they were rough and scratchy. The size however fit great and they are warm.

Bought three pair to replace my worn out Pro Gear

Bought three pair to replace my worn out Pro Gear Boot Docks. Love them! Wore out my first Pro Gear’s by hiking extensively over the past ten years. Only problem was when opening package of socks I accidentally clipped a hole in one pair, so only get two useable pair of socks. Still, my problem, not the socks.

Just ok

Too much plastic fiber. The other boot socks I have with more wool in the blend don't hold on to moisture like these. They are also very thin compared to other brands I've tried, not nearly as comfortable. They'll work. I'm not going to return them, I'm also not buying anymore. Shouldn't have got the 3 pack.

Glad i didnt get the other ones

I’ve had socks from these guys before just not heavy weight ones…..I’m so glad they were out of the heaviest ones. My feet would have cooked! These work great inside muck boots because they do actually wick sweat. Solid purchase got some for my gal as well. She stayed warm on a steelhead trip I’m guessing she sold a few pairs due to that trip.
