Benefits of Compression Socks

Before you fine folks started requesting compression socks, we had never tried them. Well, color us impressed. We found our OTC Compression Socks to provide all-day leg support and circulation keeping our feet and legs from swelling. But, don’t just take our word for it. Here are some leading expert reasons why compression socks are the right fit.

Compression Socks increase healthy pressure on your skin and tissue.

If you’re taking a long flight or patiently waiting in your hunting blind, compression socks can help maintain circulation during periods of less movement. That means less discomfort and potential swelling in your legs and feet.

Graduated compression can aid in recovery from heavy physical activity.

Whether you are an avid runner, cyclist, snowmobiler or fisher, graduated compression socks have shown to help recovery from heavy activity. Graduated compression improves blood circulation, which in turn speeds the removal of lactic acid and increases oxygen to the blood.

Most Common Uses for Compression Socks

We’re certainly hooked on the benefits of our OTC Compression Socks for everyday wear while working, but in case you need more inspiration, here are a few of our favorite use cases for these amazing socks.

  • Long fishing excursions
  • Flying to and fro
  • Skiing or Snowmobiling (bonus - our OTCs are also incredibly warm)
  • Long distance running
  • Long sitting spells while hunting

    Sock Sizing

Socks should fit as well as any of your other garments. The heel should sit on your heel and not under it as in a sock too small, nor half way up your Achilles as in a sock that’s too large. Socks should be flush against your foot with no extra material sagging. The toe seam should lay flat across the top of the toes.

    Sock Heel at Your Heel
The sock heel should sit on your heel, not under it or above it.

    Flat Toe Seam
The toe seam should lie flat along the top of your toes, not above or below.

    Taut Across the Foot
Socks should be taut across your foot with no sagging material. If you wear a wide shoe size (E+), consider sizing up.

    Material Composition

Here at The Buffalo Wool Co., our yarn bases for all our gear is (and will always be) natural fibers. This means that the internal structure of your socks (the parts that touch your skin) will be made from bison fiber, merino wool, mulberry silk, and other 100% natural fibers.

The overall composition (the parts that touch your skin plus everything else) will include other materials like nylon or polyester. This is done to make the sock more durable and ensure that your socks work (and play) as hard as you do.

    I love these socks!

I thought my feet were in love with the B.O.S.S. and the Kenai socks but man these OTC compression socks took that love to a new level! If you're chained to a desk in front of a computer most of your waking hours like I am, having compression socks is a must. These socks are quite comfortable for extended wear and the compression part doesn't feel like it's squeezing all the life from your calves--nor do the socks slide down after a couple hours. They just fit and sit. As with all the buffalo wool socks, they keep your toes toasty warm which for me is another plus since my office is so cold. I highly recommend trying out a pair for whatever activities you do. As for me, I'll be ordering some more of these!

    A new love

Okay, I'll admit it; I have a new love in my life--my O.T.C. Advantage Gear Compression socks. A cushy footbed, a comfortable, supporting leg shaft, and good looks, too..... What a package! My other compression socks have become neglected and lonely since my new love came into my life. Call me fickle, but call my feet and legs comfortable and supported.

I would trade all of my collection of compression socks for another pair of Ron and T.'s. Too bad that a trade-in program isn't in place! ;-) Thanks for another great product, y'all!!

Not Sure if They Worked But Not Uncomfortable to Wear All Day

Got these for my husband, who travels several times a year. He does like BW socks for winter wear. He wore these for a several stage trip last week and his review of them was: I wore them on our first flight, then all day on Tuesday flying to NY, and on Friday on the return trip.

They were tight, but not noticeably uncomfortable.

Other than that, it is hard to say whether they "work" or not.
