In Ronson's words: "One of the most salacious titles & cover illustrations I've come across, almost Grand Guignol* in its presentation.
This is a rare salesman sample, created so that he did not have to lug around the full tome. As such, it only includes a few pages from each chapter, but plenty of illustrations. Focus in this salesman's sample is largely on the San Francisco fire, not Vesuvius."
* For those that didn't know ... like me, Grand Guignol (pronounced "grawn-geen-YOUL") refers to the Théâtre du Grand-Guignol, a Parisian theater that specialized in shock horror theatre from 1897 to 1962. It's also used as a term to describe any dramatic or sensational horror entertainment that emphasizes violence and gruesome themes.
