Our newest midweight sock, just 100% natural fibers. 50% American Bison Down and 50% Montana Merino wool.
Sometimes a product idea just completely makes sense. In the world of sock manufacturing, where synthetic fibers like nylon and spandex reign supreme for their stretch and durability, creating a truly 100% natural sock seemed like an impossible dream.
We approached dozens of mills across the country, each one shaking their heads: "Without synthetics, the socks won't hold up," they'd say, or "It's just not feasible in modern production." Refusal after refusal left us wondering if our vision for pure bison and merino wool socks—free from plastics, chemicals, and any artificial additives—would ever come to life. That's when Mike Caird, at the Knitting Mill in Liberty Hill stepped up like a beacon of old-school craftsmanship. Nestled in the heart of Texas, this family-run operation embraced the challenge with open arms. Drawing on generations of expertise in natural fibers, they retooled their looms and perfected a knitting technique that relied solely on the inherent strength and elasticity of bison down and merino wool. No compromises, no shortcuts—just pure, earth-friendly innovation.
A "true 2x2 rib" knit crew sock of the old-school variety, this sock has the great foot fit and stay of our technical socks. It is insulating, soft and cozy, and wicks moisture away like nothing you’ve ever experienced.
Thanks to their dedication, our socks are now a reality: warm, breathable, and resilient, proving that nature knows best. The Knitting Mill didn't just make socks; they revived a tradition of sustainable textile artistry, one stitch at a time.
These socks are incredibly easy to care for and due to their antimicrobial properties, feel free to wear them a few times before washing. But when they do need to be cleaned, simply machine wash warm, then toss them in the dryer.
