Darning - A stitch in time save nine!

"A stitch in time saves nine" most of us have heard this old proverb, it comes from the literal meaning that sewing one stitch is easier than sewing nine stitches, It's doing something now that will prevent more work later when the problem can be worse.  This is so true when it comes to the care of your bison gloves and socks.  Bison is a natural fiber, a hair, that has some amazing properties that work when it's crazy cold, wet and is antimicrobial (no smell).  Spring is a great time to WASH your winter hat, gloves, and socks. Also looking for any repairs that might need to be done before you put away for the season. 
 
Most of us don't think twice about toss our socks into the dirty clothes hamper to but never think we need to wash our gloves or hats, socks yes but our gloves? They need to be washed just like our socks do, perspiration, dirt, well your hands touch a lot of things while you are out living life. And if you live in an area where they treat your roads for ice and snow then you are all too well aware of how it coats your cars, shoes and other personal items. Think about every time your glove comes in contact with that harsh winter product.  This is a hair and the care is as simple as tossing them into the washing machine on gentle cycle with a gentle detergent, or even a quick wash in the sink with gentle baby shampoo (which I have done many times while we are on the road working. This should be done at LEAST once a season if not every 15-30 days if you are wearing them daily. 
  1. Look for areas that need repair and stitch up any small holes or wear area where the fiber has worn thin.

  2. Choose to hand wash or place in the washer on gentle cycle using a gentle shampoo. (I personally use baby shampoo).
  3. Air dry or the dry's gentle cycle
  4. Make sure the gloves are completely dry before storing for the summer. I personally store my winter gear in zipper bags so everything stays fresh and ready for the following seasons.
