How to Find Your Hat Size
- First, get yourself a tape measure made from a flexible material like cloth, fabric, or bendable plastic.
- Wrap the tape around your head, making sure you measure above your ears at the area where you prefer to wear your hat.
Although it is a matter of personal choice, a good spot to measure is the widest part of your head, as that’s where a hat often fits the best. When you get a measurement, consult the charts above to figure out your size.
- Measure several times to ensure you’re getting an accurate measurement.
- Don’t pull the tape too tight; you always want to err on the side of having a little too much room.
- If you fall between two sizes, we strongly recommend that you choose the larger in the interest of comfort.
- Head sizes and shapes differ from region to region. The most common male size is 7-3/8 and the average hat size for females is 7-1/4

The Palo Duro Cowboy Hat is, in short, amazing. It’s soft, warm, fits great, protects against the sun, and keeps my hair out of my face. I wear it on my daily hikes here at 8,000 feet west of Boulder. My previous favorite hat, a bucket hat from the Rocky Grass Bluegrass Festival, has lasted about 20 years and is certainly showing its age. I am confident that my Palo Duro Cowboy Hat will be a more than adequate replacement, and I hope it lasts me as many years! Thanks to the generous bison for donating their wool!
50 years of wearing a cowboy hat and I could not be more pleased with my Palo Duro hat. Warm, water and snow resistant, durable, holds it shape better than a beaver/wool felt and looks good as well. I own 2, a rope color and a weather pecan. I am a bit of a traditional western dresser and this hat compliments my outfit. Glad I found these hats and this site!
I recently purchased the color blended hat and love it! Fits perfectly! I ended up redoing the hat band with elk hide, Native American arrowhead and decorative shell (elk hide from my own hunting and the artifacts both found the same day by my wife and I a number of years ago) I also added a horse hair stampede strap. Thanks for a great hat and great service!!!
This is the ultimate “looks good on everyone” cowboy hat. If you’re worried about getting it online because you can’t try it on, don’t. Just get it!
Perfect for the high desert winter sun. Absolutely the best hat I own. The craftmanship and customer service are top notch. America at its best.
I'm an olde guy, and I like hats. I own at least 80 hats of all types. Here in Arizona wide brimmed hats are a necessity. I was ordering other stuff and saw the Palo Duro so hey, why not? Was pleased it arrived in appropriate packaging. I love the "salty" look of the lighter color mixed in. Most of all enjoy the comfy feel when worn, lighter weight, and jaunty look. The workmanship is top quality too. A great value and an enjoyable wear.
Love the hat. Fits great, looks great and is very warm. Everyone liked it. I’ll be buying a couple more for Christmas.
I purchased a Palo Duro Hat a few weeks ago. I love it to say the least! It fits great, looks nice and is warm and soft! I wear it every day. Get lots of comments on how great it looks! Thanks again, you guys are great to work with!!!
